Breakups
I keep going back to my ex even though I know I shouldn't.
You called it closure the first time. The second time you called it "we talked and it was different." The third time you did not call it anything, you just stopped bringing it up around me.
That last part is the tell. You are not confused about this. You are managing who finds out about it.
You are going back for the version of yourself that existed in that relationship. Somebody who already knew your order, your history, your worst month. That is not love, that is low friction, and low friction feels incredible at 1am when the alternative is starting over with a stranger.
Be honest about the trade. You are choosing the familiar bad thing over the unfamiliar unknown one. That is a real choice a lot of grown men make. Just stop dressing it up as destiny.
Every time you go back, you teach yourself that your own decisions are negotiable. That is the actual damage here, and it is bigger than her. It shows up later in jobs you do not leave and boundaries you do not hold.
So the question is not whether she is good or bad. The question is whether you are somebody who does what he said he was going to do. That one you can answer today.
